Cheer up and beat the blues, boredom, and mild depression by aligning with the fundamentals of a balanced life.

A well balanced life is your best protection against lengthy bouts of boredom, the blues, and mild depression. It's easier to cheer up and feel energized when your life is built upon a strong foundation of the fundamentals of life balance.

The balanced life is not so much a matter of how much time is spent at work, but more a matter of how much of work is aligned with whom you are at your core. If life is well balanced, then most of your activities are well aligned with your purpose, your passions, and your best abilities. If that is the case, then cheering up from mild bouts of the blues is easily accomplished with some simple tips.

How to Cheer Up

To cheer up from lengthier periods of boredom, the blues, and non-clinical depression, consider whether your life needs a basic tune-up and alignment. There are five important fundamental building blocks of a balanced life. A life aligned with these fundamentals, the five Ps, will be happier, healthier, and more satisfying than if one or more are misaligned.

The Fundamentals of a Balanced Life

The five fundamentals for a well-aligned and balanced life follow:

  • Purpose - Life Purpose is primarily about whom you are being; what you are doing is a secondary result.
  • Passion - Your Passions are those activities in which you can experience your Purpose.
  • Power - Your Powers are those special skills and strengths that enable you to excel at your Passions.
  • Principle - Principles are the daily values of living that, when honored, cause you to feel right about your life and true to yourself.
  • Perspective - Perspectives are the underlying core beliefs that guide your life's direction.

Regardless of the roles and responsibilities of your life, you'll use these five Ps to build a framework of life that feels balanced and right for you.

Finding Life Purpose

The most important building block, and the one most people struggle with, is life purpose. Research studies confirm that a purposeful life brings greater happiness and health to those who feel meaning and purpose in their daily lives.

Finding life purpose is a personal journey, but one focused internally rather than externally. Though it's useful to seek advice or counsel from others about direction in one's life, the only true answer must come from within. The saying, "if you don't go within, you go without," succinctly captures this concept.

Fortunately, there is an inner mechanism and alerting system that can help identify your purpose in life. A life aligned with purpose is joyful and energetic. These two inner feelings are the mechanism by which your soul communicates to you that you're serving your life's purpose.

Though it will take further reflection and introspection, noticing when your activities bring you happiness and energy will start you on the process of finding your true life purpose.

Cheering Up

For short bouts of the blues, boredom, and mild depression, try the tips for cheering up. To cheer up from longer duration problems embark on a life realignment by addressing the fundamentals critical to a balanced life.
