Although happiness in general can be something that people search for throughout a lifetime, taking small steps towards a different way of thinking is key.

People often fail to take time to appreciate the finer things in life. Many of these aspects of life are non-material. Almost anyone can get caught up in the fast-paced lifestyle of work and other responsibilities, but what if people really took the time to look around and see what life has to offer?

Often, happiness is related to how a person views life and their attitude about life. The pursuit of happiness incorporates focusing on everything a person has instead of what they do not.

8 Keys to Achieve More Happiness in Life

Being able to achieve a more holistic life with a well balanced mindset is as easy as implementing the following 8 keys to achieve more happiness in life. These eight strategies will give an individual a more holistic life that is a combination of two factors.

One essential factor to obtaining happiness can be accomplished by incorporating and building on qualities a person already has within the self. The other factor includes their relationship with the environment and how this relationship influences their view of the outside world.

  1. Loved Ones – Having those around you that love and support you unconditionally can give a person the confidence and ability to make it through even the toughest of times. When a person has a strong support system almost anything in life can be accomplished. This factor can be a major deciding factor in a person's overall pursuit of happiness.
  2. Nature – When a person stops to take a look at the beautiful surroundings they encounter on a daily basis they can begin to appreciate it more. This can be as simple as taking a deep breath of the crisp, fresh air outside and seeing the beautiful blue sky with the bright beams of the sun and the fall leaves of red, orange and yellow.
  3. Health – How many people take their health for granted? This is very easy to do, especially if one is born with good health. What if a person was not in good health? Many of the tasks of today's busy lifestyle requires people to be in optimal health in order to get things done. Even people that were born with various types of health issues still find ways to accomplish tasks and never complain. Realize that regardless of health you have it within yourself to get things done.
  4. Health – How many people take their health for granted? This is very easy to do, especially if one is born with good health. What if a person was not in good health? Many of the tasks of today's busy lifestyle requires people to be in good health in order to get things done. If poor health was an issue, this would not be possible.
  5. Self-Respect – When a person has a good amount of self-respect and dignity, this can work in a number of beneficial ways. It gives the person confidence in knowing they have what it takes to accomplish many of their goals in life. They have a steadfast amount of motivation and dedication to making things happen because they have a strong belief in themselves, which helps in their pursuit of happiness.
  6. Spiritual Connection – By having a strong spiritual connection to a higher being regardless of religion, a person has been said to have a better outlook in life, more confidence, and more passion about life.
  7. Honesty – When someone lives an honest life they are able to live comfortably without wondering if their behavior will have a negative affect later in life. If a person earns a living in a dishonest way, this can have a profound effect on his physical and emotional well-being. This is because they are always either trying to avoid the truth or they may be running away from the truth. Therefore, this behavior creates havoc.
  8. Positive Attitude – Research has shown that a person's attitude about life is directly correlated to how happy they are in life. People who have a more positive attitude about life, are happier people, in general. By focusing more on what one has as oppose to what they do not is a great philosophy to live by.

According to Sarah Beldo, who is a writer for Guideposts.com in her article, "Study Confirms that Money does not Buy Happiness," Ed Diener and Robert Biswas-Diener who are psychological experts made a speech at the annual APA meeting. In their speech they "encouraged people to focus on psychological wealth and nurture a positive attitude rather than aiming for financial prosperity to get through tough times.

By following some or all of these guidelines one can begin realizing the beauty of life and be that much closer to spiritual enlightenment and the pursuit of happiness. Sometimes by focusing more on non material items they can produce more happiness within themselves. This will, in turn, affect others in a positive way and will cause other aspects in their life to flourish.

Great post! Love all your ideas. Just one comment....

I think if people feel they are pursuing happiness, they may never catch it. People need to know that happiness is inside them - all they need to do is be still and silent and allow it to unfold until it eventually engulfs them.

Live Life Happy!
