Building a Creative WorkspaceFind and Decorate a Sanctuary that Affirms Your Artistic Intentions
Make your commitment to creative time each week a reality by assigning a workspace for these activities and investigating the kind of art, music, or craft that inspires.
Starting on your creative journey requires at least forty-five minutes per week in a “creative sanctuary.” Choose a suitable workspace in a favorite corner of your home, whether it is a spare room or a comfortable chair. For activities like cooking, the kitchen is a logical choice, but an outdoor grill is also possible. Painting and drawing will require plenty of natural light. Fortunately many creative pursuits are portable, a journal or sketchbook are convenient and fit easily into a pocket allowing you to go anywhere like a cafe or a library. Wherever you choose, make it your own. Put inspiring pictures and affirmations where you can see them on a wall or inside a journal cover. For those who wish to take up a musical instrument, instead of going out and purchasing one, see if you could borrow or rent one until you are sure that it is for you. If you are worried about the sound disturbing others, take note that most modern amplifiers have headphone jacks so you can go ahead and practice to your heart's desire. If you choose to go with an instrument that doesn't require an amplifier, such as drums or a trumpet, then see if there are free or inexpensive rehearsal spaces in your area. Now that you have established a workspace, you need to move on to the next step by just jumping in and trying your chosen activity. If you are feeling daunted, spend some time researching your subject. Thanks to the internet, invaluable information is at your fingertips. There are also periodicals on almost any topic and they are great at giving how-to articles and further resources. Another way to learn about a certain activity is to check your local community centre or library which may offer affordable workshops and courses. When you are starting out on your creative journey, make sure you are careful where your energies are being spent. Surround yourself with positive people who are spiritual and supportive. You also need to be positive and supportive with yourself. Learn to let go of trying to be "perfect" in your chosen ability. Don't let a fear of failure deter you from being the creative being that you are. One way to help you to become more positive is through the use of affirmations. Affirmations are based on the "law of attraction" which is the belief that your thoughts create your reality. If you think positive thoughts then positive things will happen to you. "The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes."- Marcel Proust
