There is no label that clearly defines wealth and poverty. Society dictates wealth based on material possessions alone but this definition is faulty.

What is poverty consciousness? How can poverty be defined? Those in poor African countries struggling to put food on their tables can be said to be poor. But others, who live in the most prosperous countries in the world, feel poor because they cannot afford a multi-room mansion or fly to exotic locations on the spur of the moment.

Many have everything they want, but are drowning in debt trying to pay for what they have. Yet there are those who live simply, have less, yet find joy in what they do have and wouldn't trade their lifestyle for all the gold in the world.

Can global poverty be transformed into global wealth?

Defining wealth is not easy to do. Wealth and poverty is as diverse as the people.

But one thing is certain. Poverty starts in the mind. Poverty cannot be defined by physical possessions alone. Society projects the wrong definition of poverty and confines it to materialistic wealth. But more money and more possessions doesn't separate the poor from the rich. Some wealthy people are poor socially and mentally, while some poor people have a healthy perspective on life and living.

Whatever the definition may be, poverty consciousness can be changed for those who live in relative abundance. Living in freedom and in a Western style democracy where food is plenty, there is never an excuse for not desiring and accumulating wealth.

So how can poverty consciousness be transformed? What are the rules that lead to wealth and happiness?

Wealth Appreciation

Many people feel poor because they think constantly of what they don't have. They are poor because they think that way, focusing on what they don't have.

Thinking of what one lacks should be replaced with appreciation for what is already owned. So many people fail to see that they enjoy a better standard of living than the majority of the world who must worry about the basics of survival.

Poverty as Motivation

Poverty can become a springboard to accumulating wealth or it can be used to wallow in misery. Many a man or woman has risen from the slums to become the CEOs and executives of multi-national corporations. Poverty was a motivator that moved them out of a dismal situation.

On the other hand, many born into rich families have died penniless because they did not have the motivation to improve their lives.

Wealthy Possibilities

Living in the richer nations, no one needs to languish in poverty unless they decide to do so. Everyone possesses the potential for greatness. Everyone possesses talents, skills and abilities that are unique to them. No one has the same skills in the same proportion. That means that potential exists, no matter the economic status. Those who live in perfect freedom have little excuse to stay idle, depending on government assistance and welfare to meet their needs.

Manifesting Abundance

The mind is a powerful organ. What it thinks about, it can bring into reality. Too many concentrate their minds on misery and remain that way through life. If the mind is set on wealth creation, it will set in motion the processes that create wealth. Manifesting abundance means visualizing wealth and all the things desired.

Sharing Wealth

Much of what creates misery is due to selfishness. Giving something away, whether it is money or time, creates a feeling of wealth. Many of the wealthiest men and women today are philanthropists. They give away money as they know they cannot be happy hoarding their wealth.

There's no point in filling a vault with gold and silver as it is worthless unless it's contents can be used for good. Many extremely wealthy individuals are poor simply because they haven't learned to use this basic rule. Gandhi, Mother Teresa and many famous personalities were not wealthy, yet they achieved wealth in the minds of millions.

Poverty consciousness can be changed. No matter how much is possessed or how little, everyone can be rich. They only need to define what wealth means to them. Once they know that, they can start on the road to becoming rich.
