The key to success and happiness can be summed up in three words: strong self-esteem. People who believe they have value and worth are happier and more successful.
The formation of self-esteem takes place during the first few years of life. By the time a person reaches adulthood, many of their beliefs about their place in the world have become deeply rooted. Those people who form a strong sense of self-worth at a young age tend to become successful faster than their peers who believe themselves to be lacking in one area or another. Fortunately, there are ways to improve impressions of capabilities and self-worth later in life. It takes time, commitment and a willingness to accept new challenges, but the reward is a set of new, empowering beliefs that can transform a life from ordinary to extraordinary. Success Breeds SuccessThe more encouragement a person receives, the more they gain confidence to do things on their own. In order for someone who does not have faith in themselves to make a change, it is necessary to get on to the success track. Starting out with a small, achievable stretch goal allows room for successes to build on successes and self-esteem to grow. Self-Esteem Is Based on FeedbackPeople with a strong sense of self-worth take on new challenges because they believe they can succeed. They know that they are capable of being successful because at some point in their life they received positive feedback for their success. They see setbacks as short-term obstacles, which can be overcome. A person who questions their abilities can use affirmations and positive self talk to improve their self-esteem. Positive Self Talk Breeds Positive Self-EsteemSelf-esteem grows when a person feels that they have something of value to offer. When children are young, caregivers build self-esteem by listening to them, paying attention to their efforts, and praising real successes. Adults who struggle with self-esteem can benefit greatly from positive self talk. Early on it will feel awkward and uncomfortable, but with time an adult can learn to send positive messages into their psyche and build their self-esteem by using kind, positive words and praise during internal dialogue. Activities that challenge people reinforce self-esteem because in mastering a difficult task a person gains a real sense of accomplishment. Adults who struggle with self-esteem issues can overcome them by engaging in activities that allow for mastery of difficult skills. By exploring and developing their talents and interests they can reduce anxiety levels and enhance their confidence, because with confidence comes success.
