Lavender Herbal Bath Recipe

Utilizing Herbs for Cleansing and Relaxation

Feb 27, 2009 Sabrina Kinckle

The use of herbal baths provides a wonderful way to relax your body and cleanse your spirit.

An herbal bath is different from a regular bath taken to remove the grime of daily living. You use no soap or bath oil and you enter the tub already clean. For an herbal bath that will promote calming and relaxation, it is good to use lavender, as this herb has those properties.

You will need:

  • ½ cup of lavender herb
  • 1 lavender scented candle
  • A tea strainer, muslin bag, or panty hose leg
  • A heat-proof glass bowl
  • One large pot of boiling water

Seven Steps to Experiencing a Relaxing Lavender Bath

  1. Take a cleansing bath or shower and then clean out the tub.
  2. Light your lavender scented candle.
  3. Pour the lavender herbs into a tea strainer, a muslin bag, or the cut-off leg of a pair of panty hose. If you use panty hose, try placing one leg inside the other and cutting them off, so you have two layers of fabric to strain the tea.
  4. Fill the bowl with hot water to warm it up. After two or three minutes, dump the water. Place the strainer (filled with lavender) into the glass bowl and pour boiling water over it. Cover the herbs completely with water. Let the herbs steep for ten minutes, then strain and divide the tea into two portions. One portion will be used for this bath while the other portion may be placed into a jar, refrigerated and saved for your next bath.
  5. Draw a warm bath in the clean bath tub and light your candles. Pour the herbal tea into the water. Undress and step between the two candles and into the bath. Lay down so your body is completely covered by the water. Soak for at least fifteen minutes and fully immerse yourself in the tub every few minutes. If your tub is too small for complete immersion, pour water over your head with a clean glass or bowl.
  6. While you are still soaking, visualize yourself being cleansed completely and all negative energy draining away. Imagine yourself feeling completely relaxed. Feel the tension leaving every inch of your body. Then rub your body from your head down to your feet.
  7. Get out of the tub and wrap yourself in a towel or robe. You may wrap your head with a towel also. Do not rub. Let the water dry on your body.

After taking your bath, make some time for you. Take advantage of your newly relaxed self. Perhaps you enjoy curling up with a hot cup of tea and a good book.
