Limiting Beliefs Sabotage the Law of AttractionSubconscious Beliefs Limit Success, Prosperity, and Abundance
What people create in their lives with the law of attraction is a direct result of subconscious beliefs that can sabotage conscious desires.
As more people learn about the law of attraction and intend to use it their lives, they often become discouraged because they aren't getting what they think they want. The problem often lies in a discrepancy in what people think/say they want and what they believe in their subconscious mind. Although the law of attraction is sometimes stated as people get what they want, it's more accurate to say that people get what beliefs are present in the subconscious mind. Or said another way, people get what they vibrate, regardless of what they want. What are Limiting Beliefs? Why would someone vibrate something different from what they think they want? A main reason is limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs take many forms. For example, a limiting belief many people have is that they are not good enough or smart enough or deserving enough or capable enough. More specific examples include, "Bad things always happen to me," "It's too hard," "That will never work!" and "I'll be happy when (fill in the blank) happens." Examples of limiting beliefs about money include, "Money doesn't grow on trees!" "I can't afford that!" "Having money is not spiritual," and "Wealthy people are greedy." Examples of limiting beliefs in relationships include, "All the good men (women) are taken," "I don't feel safe in relationships," and "I never seem to find the right person." The possible limiting beliefs are endless and often subtle. Any sentence that begins with the words "I can't because" is probably a limiting belief. Everyone Has Limiting BeliefsPeople pick up limiting beliefs from many sources, especially as a child. Children develop limiting beliefs as a result of interactions with parents and other authority figures. News media and culture are other major sources of limiting beliefs. For someone wondering if limiting beliefs are affecting their life, in the book The Key: The Missing Secret for Attracting Anything You Want, author Joe Vitale suggests that a "yes" answer to any of the following questions indicates the presence of a limiting belief: "Do you have a recurring problem area in your life?" "Have you ever made a resolution and not kept it?" "Are you frustrated by self-help methods that haven't worked for you?" "Are you not taking action to get what you want?" "Do you feel something is sabotaging your success?" Identifying Limiting BeliefsIf limiting beliefs are subconscious, how does a person go about identifying them? What a person thinks to self and says to others is a great clue, as are emotional responses to situations and circumstances. Sometimes working with an objective observer, such as a coach or therapist, is the easiest way to uncover subconscious beliefs. Another technique, if something isn't working in a person's life, is to sit down and write down every thought about the situation. Go through that list and identify the beliefs that are not supportive. Getting Rid of Limiting BeliefsMany techniques can help get rid of (clear) limiting beliefs. Here are just a few as a starting point: Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), the Sedona Method or Abundance Course (also known as Lester Levenson's Release Technique), EmoTrance, Ho'oponopono, the Work of Byron Katie, and the Lefkoe Method. Also, counseling and coaching are options. Sometimes just looking at a belief and realizing its absurdity is enough to change it. Changing beliefs is a process. Sometimes one belief falls away just to uncover another limiting belief. However, changing these beliefs is the key to creating what one really wants in life.
