The Benefits of Meditation in Daily Life

May 28, 2007 Jennifer Rieger

There are four immediate benefits of taking time for yourself in contemplation and reflection. We will focus on the 4 R's: relax, regroup, rething and reset priorities.

This article will review four powerful benefits of meditation in our daily lives. Be on the lookout for future articles coving the specifics of meditation… various types and how to meditate.

Relax

One of the greatest benefits of meditation is relaxation. Whether it’s the demanding nature of your high-stress job or shuffling kids from school to soccer practice, we’re all on the go. We live in a society which values constant activity. We must work more than full-time hours at our jobs and our kids must be in multiple activities. But, where does this leave us? Frazzled? Stressed out? Feeling overwhelmed?

The good news is meditation can help! The simple act of taking a few minutes to yourself in the morning, can help you feel more relaxed, peaceful and calm throughout your busy day. Used throughout the day, the results can be miraculous! You might just feel that river of calm flowing peacefully inside you!

Regroup

We’ve all seen the movies or television programs (or even known real life situations) where the wayward son or daughter leaves town to “find themselves”. The truth is, you don’t need to leave town in order to leave distractions and focus within. You can choose to give yourself the gift of time each day for introspection. If you make yourself a priority, you will leave your meditation time feeling confident in who you are and able to give your gifts to those around you.

Rethink

A miracle occurs when you meditate. You are able to solve problems from within…even when you are not focusing on them. Surprisingly, most of our answers lie within us. They are already there. Sometimes, the very act of clearing your mind is all that’s needed to bring your answers to the surface. You will have ‘Aha! moments,’ epiphanies which guide you to solve or let go of your most pressing problems in your life.

You will also experience and see the value in loving yourself and others… as you are and as they are. Forgiveness and peace are found when we are not trying to change who we are.

Reset Priorities

Well, you’ve thought things through, found yourself and feel that river of peace streaming. Now, you are given the gift of clear vision for what you’d like to create in your life. This is the exciting part. You can let go of petty irritations and focus on your true priorities. You will accomplish more and lead a more positive, peaceful life through the power of meditation.

As you can see, meditation can change your life. These four benefits are powerful, and these are just a sampling of what meditation can do for you. Give it a try and you will see. You are worth it!
