Manifesting and Visualizing GoalsThinking from the End is a Key Technique in Achieving Goals
Visualizing a result is key in achieving goals. When a person visualizes a positive outcome, some believe it impacts the subconscious and affects reality.
A powerful technique in manifesting dreams and goals into reality is called "thinking from the end" or visualization. When a person thinks from the end, he or she is imagining having already produced the result desired. In other words, a mental image is created, and the person is immersed in a goal or desire. Some believe that visualization plays to the subconscious mind, and it's through the subconscious that one can affect reality. Success Begins with Visualizing ResultsMichelangelo said this about his Statue of David: "I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free." This remark suggests that Michelangelo's mental imagery allowed him to birth a genius creation from his subconscious mind. The subconscious, as it's well known, is thought to have a persuasive effect on a person's outer world, for better or worse. Where the conscious mind is responsible for logic and reasoning, the subconscious mind houses beliefs, feelings and memories. So just as the subconscious can guide and direct, a person also has the power to make an impression. For example, say that a woman lives in the city and dreams of moving to a small town in Maine, where she can start a new life and perhaps write a novel. If she thought from the end, she would actually see herself sitting at a desk writing the novel, surrounded by beautiful artwork on the walls, and by other details that make her happy. She may imagine the warm sun blazing in through French doors and the taste of a delicious cup of coffee. She occasionally looks out the window to view a calm lake, and thinks about how she will enjoy kayaking on it later in the day. In that moment, she feels happy, fulfilled and at peace, not only in what she imagines but also in reality. The woman's visualization activates her subconscious mind to help find and bring forth the information and means for taking action. When the visualization is repeated, the idea is molded into the subconscious mind and this guides the woman's actions and ultimately, her future. Mind Power Over BodyPharmaceutical scientist and author Dr. David R. Hamilton, Ph.D. has studied the mind-body connection and says in his latest book, It's the Thought that Counts: Why Mind Over Matter Really Works, that thoughts, feelings and intentions are strong enough to affect a human's genes. He says that everyone can learn to harness the power of their thoughts and feelings to bring about positive health effects in their own body. "Visualization techniques, for instance, are regularly used by thousands of people and have often produced what may be seen as nothing short of miracles," says Dr. Hamilton. In an article, Visualization Alters the Brain, found on Dr. Hamilton's website he writes, "Your brain cannot tell the difference between something that's real and whether you are just imagining it." He refers to an experiment done by Harvard scientists involving brain scans and imagery. The scientists taught a simple five-fingered combination of piano notes to a group of people, which they practiced for two hours a day. This was done for five consecutive days. He explains that another group of volunteers didn't in fact play the notes, but just imagined playing them. They visualized the same combination for the same time period, two hours a day for five consecutive days. Dr. Hamilton says that the brain scans for the volunteers who actually did the physical practicing and the ones who imagined the practice were the same and that the brain can't tell the difference between real and imaginary. Meditate on the Conditions You Wish to ProduceDr. Wayne Dyer, internationally renowned author and speaker in the field of self-development, in his book, The Power of Intention: Learning to Co-create Your World Your Way, says to "continuously contemplate yourself as being surrounded by the conditions you wish to produce." He illustrates this idea by saying that the Wright brothers didn't contemplate the staying on the ground of things just as Thomas Edison didn't contemplate a world without light. "In order to float an idea into reality, you must be willing to do a somersault into the inconceivable and land on your feet, contemplating what you want instead of what you don't have. You'll then start floating your desires instead of sinking them," says Dr. Dyer. Visualizing positive outcomes proves to be an effective way to place a person's attention on what is wanted rather than on what is not wanted. Visualization Success StrategiesA couple of effective ways to visualize include:
Visualizing how life can really be is key to achieving goals and, most importantly, to creating a life by design rather than a life shaped by circumstances.
