TM brings rest and relaxation through simple, effortless, non-religious practice that is done twice a day for a more stress-free life. Scientific evidence shows TM works.

Transcendental Meditation (TM) is an easy, effortless technique that relaxes the mind and releases stress from the nervous system.

Not a Religion, A Simple Mental Technique

TM is not a religion nor based on any religious teaching. It requires no set of beliefs, nor is anyone asked to give up his or her own religious beliefs. It is a mental technique that allows the mind to settle down to deeper levels of quietness and thought. As the mind settles down, the body also settles and it is this that allows stress and worries to be dissolved.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

TM was introduced to this country over forty years ago by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, a teacher and Hindu monk who brought with him the ancient art of meditation practice that is known throughout India and much of the east.

What sets TM apart from other meditation or relaxation techniques is that it does not require contemplation or focus or any kind of mental discipline. Anyone can meditate and begins reaping the benefits from the very first session.

What Are the Benefits of Transcendental Meditation?

These benefits include things such as greater mental alertness, faster reaction time in both large and small muscle coordination, greater sense of serenity and purpose, improved memory in terms of short and long term recall, and an increased feeling of well-being and relaxation.

Transcendental Meditation is a technique that brings results. People report feeling more deeply at peace, restful, calm after meditation. TM brings more clarity and mental alertness to activity after mediating. There's also evidence that suggests that students' grades go up and test scores are higher after practicing meditation on a regular basis.

Well-Researched Results of Meditation

TM is one of the most researched of all relaxation techniques and has earned respect across the scientific community for actually producing the benefits it espouses. For many who struggle with tension related conditions such as high blood pressure, hypertension or people who suffer from ADHD related problems, TM has proven to be a reliable solution.

David Lynch Foundation Supports TM

Currently, TM is experiencing a resurgence of popularity thanks to people like David Lynch who founded the David Lynch Foundation to support the TM program in schools across the country.

In 2009, there was a concert at Radio City Music Hall featuring Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Donovan, Moby, Sheryl Crow and others. All of the artists donated their time to raise money for the Foundation to bring Transcendental Meditation to at-risk school kids.

The Costs of Learning Transcendental Meditation

Like many self-help programs for increased vitality, well-being and improved health, learning TM costs money; anywhere from $1,500 for an individual and $2,000 for a couple. But learned once over a ten-day period of seven sessions, it lasts a lifetime.

Although once learned, all subsequent checking sessions, or visits to fine tune technique, are absolutely free at any TM facility.

Thanks for this article. I really like my Transcendental Meditation. I go soooooo deep. The rest and quiet inside is really something. It really adds a lot to my day. In the evening when I'm tired I do my TM and I am always amazed at how fresh I feel afterwards.

Thanks Megge. This is a great article and good summary of the benefits people experience with TM. In my experience with TM, everything you say is true. The benefits TM brings are much more than can be contained in one column! TM.org is a good website for people wanting more info. If the students (adults too!) who are learning TM continue with their practice morning and evening twice a day, they will experience these benefits you speak of and will end up realizing learning TM was the best decision they ever made. Why? Because it helps every area of their lives become more enjoyable. They will naturally be attracted more and more to things that are beneficial for themselves, for others as well as the whole environment. The best part of it is, that all this happens spontaneously!

Wonderful article, thanks. I too have been doing TM for many years and have experienced first hand the great benefits it brings. I got my mother to learn some years ago and she finds it really helped after my father died. The regular dive in to a field of happiness really helped her to cope with grief and loss. I think it would be great to have TM in the schools to help kids to focus and enjoy school more.
