Cheer Up With Good Food

Beat the blues with a good snack

Sometimes cheering up is just a matter of treating yourself to a good snack. These are mine, and most are healthy.

Cheering up is a matter of taking one small step at a time. Make that first step a healthy snack. Some favorites of mine are:

  • Chocolate, dark chocolate is healthiest, but milk chocolate tastes better.
  • Wine.
  • Fresh strawberries.
  • Coffee, a fresh-brewed cup at home or the Hazlenut at Panera Bakery.
  • Spiced tea, I like Tazo spiced chai tea.
  • Any in-season, bright colored, fresh fruit.
  • Ice cream; I know, not very healthy, but very good.
  • Pizza.
  • Cold beer, skip the high fat munchies and go with nuts or low fat cheese.

Don't wolf down your snack. Savor it. Breath in the aromas. Take a bite or drink and hold it briefly in your mouth, tasting the flavors. Notice that your spirits rise with each bite or drink.
