I've tried a lot of fad diets, and what seems to work best for me is plain-and-simple portion control. When I'm not depriving myself of foods I really like, I no longer obsess about what goes into my mouth. It becomes easier to stop at half a cookie, because I know I'll be allowed the rest the following day. I'll choose grilled fish because it sounds healthier, not becuase I am forbidden from having other choices.

That, and staying naturally active. I'll attend a salsa dance class before I'll set food in a step-aerobics class, but I find ways to work exercize into my life, and not the other way around.

I agree wholeheartedly. My son has a favorite saying, "The dose makes the poison." And the doses we get in most restaurants verge on poisonous; they're just too large. Here's a neat trick. Serve your meals on small plates; the plate appears full even with modest portions and it tends to suggest we've had a big meal.
